On Sunday afternoon I attended the BBC good food show at the SEC. I came away having tried things I never thought I’d try.
Parma violet gin? Tick.

Homemade cider? Tick.

Free biscoff biscuits? Tick
Free biscoff biscuit dunked in biscoff biscuit spread? Tick.

We also saw a cider press, chocolate companies, fudge companies, bakeries, product demonstrations, wheels of cheese and we stroked a guide dog.
As well as that there was street food; hot dogs, chocolate fountains, meatballs, bratwurst, pop up restaurants and a VIP lounge.
There also Gin. So. Much. Gin. Every gin company in Scotland seemed to be there; Edinburgh Gin, Eden Mill, Makar Gin. The list is endless.
We heard Ajmal Mushtaq, who runs Mushtaq’s Indian Restaurant in Hamilton talk about Indian food. Apparently the only ingredients you’re meant to worry about in curry is chilli should and that should double the weight of the salt.

And to cook the perfect rice: 1 cup of water, 2 cups of rice and rinse it 3 times. Cook hard and fast for five minutes. Cook it on low for ten minutes.

We spent the last part of the afternoon feeling starstruck by Paul Hollywood who was doing a demonstration. He showed us how to make a Pea and bacon tart and olive bread.

He was witty with very dry humour and liked nothing better then correcting people in the audience when they answered his questions wrong about baking pastry blind.
On the whole I would throughly recommend this as an afternoon out. It was incredibly busy but there was such a wide variety of foods, tasters and talks that I would recommend it to anyone whose looking for an afternoon out. You don’t have to be a foodie at all to enjoy this. 5/5
